Russia announces a week of National Holidays to combat Coronavirus

Russian President Putin has announced a a week-long paid national holiday from March 30th to April 5th, to prevent the large-scale spread of Novel Coronavirus in Russia.

In an update from the Kremlin, it has been clarified that the week-long paid national holiday doesn’t mean people should stop working. “Those who have been working remotely will continue to work next week,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on a conference call with reporters. “It’s not days off or holidays in the classical understanding of that word.”

Putin said that the most important thing at present is to prevent the large-scale transmission of the virus. “I hope that all citizens of Russia follow the recommendations of the government and doctors, take care of themselves and their families, and stay safe at home.”

Putin added that only key businesses such as banks, pharmacies and supermarkets would be allowed to stay open during the week-long holiday.

Putin said that with the joint efforts of the Russian government and all walks of life, Russia has successfully curbed the large-scale spread of the new crown virus in Russia. He expressed his gratitude to the medical workers who are fighting the battle against the new crown virus. “These medical workers are currently at the forefront of defending the country. This self-sacrifice spirit is admirable.”
