The President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has declared Sunday July 28th 2019 to be a public holiday.
This year, the Independence Day of the Maldives will fall on Friday July 26th, which is a weekend in the country.
A press release from the Presidents Office says this decision was made due to a large number of students, civil servants, and public sector staff participating in the Independence Day celebratory events.
The press release also announces that the President has declared Thursday August 15th 2019 as a public holiday.
This extends the Eid Holidays to a full week, so that all students and workers who wish to travel and visit their families and friends on the occasion of Eid-al-Al’ha can do so with ease.
