President Marcos has declared June 17th 2024 as a regular holiday in the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.
The declaration is contained in Proclamation No. 579 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of the President.
The proclamation said the holiday declaration was made upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos based on the 1445 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Eid al-Adha is an Islamic religious holiday on the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month in the lunar calendar. The holiday began as a way to celebrate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to God’s command.
Eid al-Adha is celebrated worldwide as a time for Muslims to sacrifice for Allah and share with their family and neighbors.
