Indian Bank Holidays for January 2024

Indian public and private banks will be closed on 16 days including the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays in January 2024, owing to festivals.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks remain closed on all public holidays but there are some holidays that are regional, i.e. restricted to certain states only. Regional holidays are decided by respective state governments.

The RBI classifies holidays into three categories: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

5. January 13 (Saturday)- Second Saturday

7. January 15 (Monday)- Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day (Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh)
8. January 16 (Tuesday)- Tusu Puja (West Bengal and Assam)
9. January 17 (Wednesday)- Guru Govind Singh Jayanti
10. January 21 (Sunday)
11. January 23 (Tuesday)- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti
12. January 25 (Thursday)- State Day (Himachal Pradesh)
13. January 26 (Friday)- Republic Day
14. January 27 (Saturday)-Fourth Saturday
15. January 28 (Sunday)
16. January 31 (Wednesday): Me-Dam-Me-Phi (Assam)
