President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared Wednesday June 28th 2023 a regular national holiday in the Philippines this year in observance of Eid’l Adha.
This was stated under Proclamation No. 258 signed on June 13th and made public by Malacañang a day after.
Based on the document, Marcos made the declaration upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, which follows the 1444 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Eid’l Adha is an Islamic religious holiday on the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month in the lunar calendar. The holiday began as a way to celebrate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to God’s command.
Eid al-Adha is celebrated worldwide as a time for Muslims to sacrifice for Allah and share with their family and neighbors.
