Eid al-Adha holidays in Oman to last a week

The Eid al-Adha holidays in Oman have been extended to last a week, authorities have revealed.

The decision was based on the directives of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, with the holiday now lasting from Thursday July 30th to Thursday August 6th. The holidays were originally planned to last until Monday August 3rd.

Work will resume on August 9th and applies to both public and private sectors.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Oman is currently under a lockdown that will last until August 8th. Authorities have banned the movement of people, as well as gatherings and group celebrations during the Eid period.

Eid al-Adha is the Feast of Sacrifice and the most important feast in the Muslim calendar. It celebrates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael in submission to Allah’s command, before he was stopped by Allah.
