The Federal government of Pakistan has officially announced six days of public holiday to mark the Islamic festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to a notification issued by the Interior Ministry Friday May 22nd to Wednesday May 27th 2020 shall be public holidays on the occasion Eid-ul-Fitr.
The notification also stated that during the Eid holidays all businesses, public places, community markets and shops etc, will remain closed. Only shops selling essential items and medical services will remain open, the statement added.
According to Pakistan’s Met Office the crescent of Shawwal-ul-Mukarram is most likely to be sighted in the evening of Sunday May 24th, thus Eid would be observed on Monday May 25th.
The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Festival of Fast-breaking, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.
