January’s bank holidays are dominated by the various regional holidays as announced by state governments.
It is useful to know when then banks are closed, so you can plan any necessary transactions in advance and withdraw cash early to avoid empty ATMs.
January 2020 is a strange month for bank holidays. There is the usual weekend holidays of all Sundays and every other Saturday, and the only national holiday, Republic Day, falls on a Sunday.
However, the month is peppered by a number of regional and state holidays as announced by the state governments. In total, banks will be closed somewhere in India on 16 out of the 31 days in January.
