New Year’s Day officially declared a holiday in UAE

The first public holiday in the UAE in 2020 will officially take place on New Year’s Day, enabling citizens to enjoy a short mid-week break.

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, public and private sector workers will have Wednesday January 1st off, with work resuming on Thursday January 2nd.

Public sector workers in Umm Al Quwain, the smallest of the seven emirates will enjoy a second day of holidays on Thursday January 2nd 2020.

In a circular, the Ruler’s Court of Umm Al Quwain stated that work will be suspended in all government departments in the emirate on Wednesday January 1 and Thursday January 2, 2020.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority have announced that all paid parking zones will be free to use on Wednesday January 1st only and will apply to all public parking except multi-level terminals.
