Public Holiday in Mauritius to mark success in the Indian Ocean Island Games

Monday July 29th 2019 will be a public holiday in Mauritius. The Mauritian Prime Minister announced the decision on Friday July 26th after the boxing competition at the National Boxing Center in Vacoas.

The holiday will allow Mauritians to celebrate the victory of their country at the 10th Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG), which is being hosted in Mauritius.

By Friday the country had won 84 gold medals, with the nearest country being Madagascar with 43.

The Indian Ocean Island Games (Jeux des îles de l’océan Indien Mauric) is a multi-sport event that takes place every four years for top athletes from seven Indian Ocean island nations – Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, the Maldives and Réunion.
