Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha holidays for private and public sectors in UAE announced

The Eid al-Adha holidays in United Arab Emirates will begin on 9th through 12th Dhu al-Hijjah 1440 H, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced on Thursday.

This means public and private employees across the country will enjoy a four-day break from Saturday August 10th until Tuesday August 13th.

Earlier this year, it was announced by the UAE cabinet that the private sector would have the same amount of holiday as their government counterparts in the public sector. Though the Eid al-Fitr holidays did differ between the public and private sectors, we have no indication that the Eid al-Adha holidays will follow suit.

The Authority greeted President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, on the occasion. The Federal Authority of Human Resources also took the opportunity to congratulate the people of the UAE and of all Arab and Islamic countries.

Eid Al Adha, known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, is the second of the two major Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year. It honours the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
