The Naadam Festival in Mongolia has been a way to celebrate the culture of this central Asian country for hundreds of years. The festival starts on July 11th, which also marks independence from China on that day in 1921.
The Naadam Festival was inscribed on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO in 2010.
In recent years, the festival has increasingly been seen as a key event to drive the tourist industry in Mongolia, with ambitious targets havinge been set for the sector.
The importance of Naadam was underlined at a press conference on Wednesday, where Mongolian Environment and Tourism Minister Namsrai Tserenbat said “the Naadam is one of the main tourism events in Mongolia. At least 15,000 foreign tourists are expected to visit our country during the celebration of this year’s Naadam.”
The minister added that the ministry is currently in efforts to reinforce and enhance services aimed at satisfying guests.
