The UAE has announced a one-week holiday for federal government employees to mark Eid al-Fitr.
Public sector
Federal employees in the Gulf state will be on holiday from Monday, April 8th to Sunday, April 14th 2024. Work will resume on Monday, April 15th 2024.
Since Saturday and Sunday are the official weekend days in the UAE, federal government workers will be granted a nine-day break to celebrate Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of the month-long fasting period.
Private Sector
If Ramadan lasts 29 days, private sector employees will get six days off for Eid, from Monday, April 8th (Ramadan 29) to Thursday, April 11th.
Those who have a Saturday-Sunday weekend will have a six-day break with work resuming on Friday, April 12th.
If it’s a 30-day Ramadan, the Eid break will run from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) to Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3). Meaning those who have a Saturday and Sunday weekend will have a nine-day break with work resuming on Monday, April 15th.
Eid al Fitr is also known as the ‘Festival of Breaking of the Fast’ and is one of two official holidays celebrated in Islam. It is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and marks the end of Ramadan.
It is a celebratory occasion marked by morning prayers, family get-togethers, the giving of gifts to loved ones and charitable donations.
