Saudi Arabia has announced a four-day holiday for both public and private sector employees for Eid Al Fitr from Monday, April 8th 2024.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development confirmed the holiday, allowing most workers to enjoy a long break.
Eid Al Fitr is predicted to fall on Tuesday April 9th 2024, however this could change depending on the official sighting of the moon the day before.
For Muslims, Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It’s a joyful holiday when the faithful celebrate the completion of 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting.
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwal, which follows Ramadan as the 10th month of the lunar-based Islamic calendar.
Like the start of Ramadan, the date of Eid is established by the sighting of the crescent moon, which generally appears one night after the new moon, and marks the onset of the month of Shawwal, the tenth of the Islamic Hijri calendar.
