Public Holidays for Fiji announced for 2024

Next year’s public holidays have been confirmed by the Fijian cabinet.

In a statement, the cabinet announced that the dates for the public holidays were confirmed after consultations with the Office of the Solicitor-General, the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts and various faith-based organizations.

New Year’s Day public holiday is on Monday 1st January, Good Friday is on Friday 29th March, Easter Saturday is on Saturday 30th March, Easter Monday is on Monday 1st April, Girmit Day is on Monday 13th May, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day is on Friday 31st May, Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday is on Monday 16th September, Fiji Day is on Thursday 10th October, Diwali is on Friday 1st November, Christmas Day is on Wednesday 25th December and Boxing Day is on Thursday 26th December.

Setting Easter Saturday aside, none of the other 10 public holidays fall on a weekend in 2024, and Fijians can look forward to six long weekends next year.

The dates for the 2024 public holidays were confirmed after consultation with Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji for the celebration date of Diwali; Fiji Girmit Council to celebrate Girmit Day; Fiji Muslim League for the celebration date of Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday; Fiji Council of Churches for the celebration dates of the Easter Holidays; Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts on the celebration of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day and Office of the Solicitor – General for celebration of New Year, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Fiji Day.
