Singapore Announces Public Holidays Dates For 2023

There will be six long weekends next year, one more than the five in 2022, the Ministry of Manpower has announced in its release on gazetted public holidays.

Seven of the 11 public holidays fall on a Friday, Sunday or Monday.

As New Year’s Day and Deepavali fall on a Sunday, the following Monday will be a public holiday. As the Chinese New Year holiday will fall on Jan 22 and 23 — Sunday and Monday — there will be a single four-day long weekend from Jan 21 to 24.

Hari Raya Puasa and Vesak Day fall on a Saturday in 2023 and therefore are not compensated by a public holiday on a weekday.

It’s not all bad news with the two Saturdays. In accordance with the Employment Act, if a public holiday falls on a non-working day, you are entitled to another day off OR an extra day’s salary in lieu of the public holiday at the gross rate of pay.

Three public holidays fall on a Sunday:

New Year’s Day (Jan 1)

First day of Chinese New Year (Jan 22)

Deepavali (Nov 12)

Three public holidays fall on a Monday:

Second day of Chinese New Year (Jan 23)

Labour Day (May 1)

Christmas Day (Dec 25)

One public holiday falls on a Friday:

Good Friday (Apr 7)

Two public holidays fall on a Saturday

Hari Raya Puasa (Apr 22)

Vesak Day (Jun 3)

The other public holidays are:

Hari Raya Haji (Jun 29)

National Day (Aug 9)
