Egypt announces April 29th – May 3rd as holidays for public and private sector

Employees in the public and private sectors will take five days off, from April 29th to May 3rd 2021, to celebrate different paid national holidays, as per a Cabinet decision.

Egyptians will celebrate the Sinai Liberation Day on Thursday April 29th instead of April 25th. As per an earlier government’s decisions, mid-week vacations are celebrated on Thursdays to give employees a longer holiday.

Saturday May 1st will be a holiday on the occasion of Labour Day.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision suspending work on Sunday, May 2, in order to reduce the crowding of citizens as a precautionary measure as part of the state’s plan to address any potential repercussions of the coronavirus.

These decisions do not apply on workers in vital facilities such as: transport services, ambulance, hospitals, water and sanitation, and the electricity sector.

Each vital authority should organize work on these days according to the rules it deems to be in the public interest, Madbouly added.

On Monday May 3rd, Egyptians will celebrate Sham El-Nessim, an ancient festival celebrated by all Egyptians to mark the beginning of the Spring.
