There will be five long weekends next year, one more than the four in 2021, the Ministry of Manpower has announced in its release on gazetted public holidays.
As Labour Day and Hari Raya Puasa fall on consecutive days on Sunday May 1st and Monday May 2nd, they will be part of a single long weekend of four days as Tuesday May 3rd will be a public holiday in lieu of Labour Day.
New Year’s Day (January 1st), and Hari Raya Haji fall on a Saturday in 2022 and therefore are not compensated by a public holiday on a weekday.
It’s not all bad news with the two Saturdays. In accordance with the Employment Act, if a public holiday falls on a non-working day, you are entitled to another day off OR an extra day’s salary in lieu of the public holiday at the gross rate of pay.
