January 23rd announced as public holiday in Jharkhand to mark Netaji’s birthday

The Chief Minister of Jharkhand has announced that January 23rd will be a public holiday in Jharkhand state to mark the 123rd birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a prominent figure in India’s struggle for freedom.

The day was removed from the list of holidays between 2015 and 2019, though ‘Netaji Jayanti’ had been a holiday till 2014, an official release said.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered to declare a public holiday on Thursday January 23rd 2020 to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose,” read a tweet in Hindi from Jharkhand Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

“Jharkhand has also been the ‘karambhoomi’ of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. His contribution to ensuring independence to India can never be forgotten. We all should take inspiration from his life. The youth should contribute to the state and country service by following the footsteps of Netaji,” Soren said in a follow-up tweet.
