Christmas Eve now officially a public holiday in Queensland

Christmas will come a few hours earlier for workers in Queensland this year, with the State Government officially declaring the night before Christmas a public holiday.

The Holidays and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2019 was passed to establish the part-day public holiday on Christmas Eve was passed by the Queensland Parliament on Wednesday November 27th 2019.

The Christmas Eve holiday will officially start at 6.00pm on December 24th and will remain in place until midnight.

With this change, Queensland becomes the third Australian state to observe a public holiday in the evening of Christmas Eve, following Northern Territory and South Australia.

Note that employees of any North Pole based organisations are exempt and expected to work as normal, so any deliveries during the night before Christmas should not be affected.
