Fiji will mark 10 public holidays in 2020

The Fijian Government has approved the public holidays for 2020 through Gazette Notice 78 dated Friday September 6th 2019.

  1. New Year’s Day – Wednesday January 1st
  2. Good Friday – Friday April 10th
  3. Easter Saturday – Saturday April 11th
  4. Easter Monday – Monday April 13th
  5. Constitution Day – Monday September 7th
  6. Fiji Day – Saturday October 10th
  7. Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday – Monday November 2nd
  8. Diwali – Monday November 16th
  9. Christmas Day – Friday December 25th
  10. Boxing Day – Monday December 28th

Note that two of the holidays fall on a weekend. Easter Saturday as always, but Fiji Day will also fall on a Saturday in 2020.

It could have been worse as the dates for Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday and Diwali are likely to have fallen on a weekend, but both will be observed on a Monday.

In total Fijians will enjoy five long weekends in 2020.

The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations said it had consulted stakeholders on the dates and this announcement will allow Fijians and all relevant stakeholders to plan their activities for 2020.
