The Gambia to observe Youmul Ashura on September 9th

In a media advisory, the President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow, acting under the provisions of section 76 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, declares Monday September 9th 2019, as a Public Holiday throughout The Gambia in observance of Youmul Ashura.

Youmul Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks the climax of the Mourning of Muharram

Note: this holiday is not for Islamic New Year as mentioned in the statement. It also brings the date forward by one day as the original anticipated date of Youmul Ashura was Tuesday September 10th.

Meanwhile, The President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency, Adama Barrow will on Monday, 9th September 2019 travel to the Kingdom of Qatar for a three-day State Visit.
