Nigeria: Kano declares Monday public holiday for Hijrah

Kano State Government has declared Monday, September 2nd 2019 as a work-free day, to mark Hijrah, the new Islamic year 1441 AH.

The holiday was announced in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Information, Sani Abba Yola.

The statement said Sunday, September 1st 2019 was equivalent to the first day of Muharram 1441 AH. Note that Osun state is observing Islamic New Year on Saturday August 31st 2019.

In the statement, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje urged public officers and civil servants in the state to use the occasion to pray for peace, stability and progress of the state and the country.

The statement also said the governor wished all Muslims in the state, happy Islamic New Year and enjoined them to continue living with one another peacefully in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
