Bakrid moved to Monday August 12th in Kerala

The Kerala government has announced a public holiday on Monday August 12th 2019 for the occasion of Bakrid.

The holiday will be applicable for all establishments including government offices, all educational institutions including professional colleges and all establishments that come under the limits of negotiable instruments act, the government order No. 146 from the General Administration Department said.

The order added that Establishments which consider Sunday as a normal working day, will open on August 11th.

Sunday August 11th was the original gazetted date for Bakrid in Kerala in 2019.

Bakrid, the Feast of Sacrifice is the most important feast of the Muslim calendar. It is celebrated throughout the Muslim world as a commemoration of Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice everything for God.
