The government of Kenya has declared Monday October 11th 2021 as a public holiday.
According to a public statement released by Interior & Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Monday becomes a public holiday by virtue of the fact that Utamaduni Day falls on a Sunday, October 10th.
“In line with the provisions of Section 2 and 4 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 110), it is hereby confirmed that 11th October 2021 will be a public holiday,” Matiang’i said.
The Public Holidays Act of 1984 explains that when a public holiday falls on a Sunday;
“Where, in any year, a day in Part 1 of the Schedule falls on a Sunday, then the first succeeding day, not being a public holiday, shall be a public holiday and the first-mentioned day shall cease to be public holiday.”
“Whereas this day is already conferred by law, this shall be the first time that Utamaduni Day is observed in Kenya and this press release serves to emphasize the need for all citizens to recognize and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Kenya in a manner that promotes unity, national cohesion and economic progress in the country,” stated the CS.
