The Indonesian government has announced that it has removed five collective leave days from this year’s holiday schedule.
The move was taken following the spikes that had been seen in COVID-19 cases after long public holidays in 2020.
The decision was made following a meeting with the heads of several ministries today, headed by Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy.
“Previously, there were seven collective leave days [in 2021]. After careful review, the collective leave days schedule has been shortened from seven days to just two days,” Muhadjir said.
Of the initially announced days, only Wednesday, May 12th and Friday December 24th survive.
Late last year, the government cut the collective leave days for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
