Sri Lanka announces public holiday for June 4th

The public administration ministry has declared a public holiday on Thursday June 4th, due to the nationwide curfew which will be in effect on that day.

Sri Lanka will observe a curfew on June 4th and 5th, as the country will commemorate the Poson Full Moon Poya Day on June 5th.

Poson Poya is second only in importance to Vesak and commemorates the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by the Buddhist missionary monk Mahinda in the 3rd century B.C.

From June 6th, the curfew will be in effect only from 10 pm to 4 am across all districts, the President’s Office said.

Traveling between districts except for Colombo and Gampaha – which have been identified as high-risk zones for the coronavirus, will be allowed when the curfew is lifted.
