Nigeria declares May 25th and May 26th as public holidays for Eid-el-Fitri

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has declared Monday May 25th and Tuesday May 26th 2020 as public holidays in Nigeria to mark Eid-el-Fitri Celebration.

The festival of Eid-el-Fitri, the Festival of Fast-breaking, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.  The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.

Aregbesola, made the public holiday declaration on behalf of the Federal Government via Twitter.

The minister congratulated all Muslim faithful for successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

In a statement on Twitter, Director of Press in the Ministry, Mohammed Manga, explained that Aregbesola called on Muslim faithful to replicate the life of kindness, love, tolerance, peace and good neighbourliness as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

He assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is committed to the fight against COVID-19 with the cooperation of all Nigerians.
