The Guyana government has ordered that Monday March 2nd 2020 will be a national holiday to allow voters to participate in the general elections.
The announcement of the holiday follows calls by the business community and other stakeholders to give the day as a holiday.
Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan issued the order which has since been published in the Official Gazette.
The Polls open at 6am and close at 6pm, though results will not be known for several days due to the remoteness of some polling stations.
