Africa

The Zimbabwean government has advised that Monday December 23rd 2019 will be a public holiday.

This is because Unity Day which is observed on December 22nd each year, falls on a Sunday this year.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Mr Aaron Nhepera told State-owned media that, traditionally, if a public holiday is on a Sunday, then the following working day will be a holiday.

Under the terms of Section 2(1) (ii) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act, if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following working day becomes a public holiday.

Unity Day commemorates the merger of two political parties, Zanu PF and PF Zapu on December 22nd 1987.
