The Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz has announced that Saturday August 31st 2019, will be an official holiday for ministries, official departments, institutions and public bodies on the occasion of the Hijri New Year.
The announcement called on all ministries, official departments, institutions and public bodies to celebrate the occasion and highlight its importance.
In 2019, Hijri New Year marks 1,441 years since the migration of the Prophet Mohammed and his companions from Mecca to Medina in 622AD. Hijri (from Arabic word Hijrah, which means migration) was a turning point in the history of Islam when the choice was made to sacrifice worldly gains and comforts for the perseverance of the religion.
